Bulacan town mayor, wife get COVID-19

BALAGTAS, Bulacan–The mayor of Balagtas town and his wife tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019.

Mayor Eladio Gonzales Jr. made the disclosure in a social media post on Thursday.

The mayor and his wife are senior citizens. They are asymptomatic.

Gonzales said they underwent tests as soon as contact tracing teams determined that he was exposed to a recent patient while performing his duties.

The couple is under quarantine but the mayor said he will continue to discharge his functions.

Gonzales urged other town officials to undergo swab tests. The Balagtas municipal hall is on temporary lockdown for disinfection.

Gonzales is the fourth Bulacan mayor to contract the virus and is among the ten Bulacan officials who were infected including Gov. Daniel Fernando. CARMELA REYES ESTROPE
