MMDA to probe ‘Sara’ streamers in Metro

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chair Benjamin Abalos Jr. said the agency would probe the legality of the “Run, Sara, Run” banners seen in various public spots in Metro Manila, which were slammed by netizens as a potential violation of election laws.

“I have not seen [the tarpaulins], but I will have them checked. I’ll look into them first,” Abalos said during a press conference on Thursday.

Celine Pialago, the MMDA spokesperson, said they were checking whether the banners, which were meant to prod Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to run for president in 2022, were given permits, and who allowed their installation.

The banners were put up on footbridges in Quezon Avenue, Cubao and East Avenue in Quezon City and Tutuban Center in Manila, and were first spotted on Wednesday. —Mariejo S. Ramos
