DOH reports additional 1,901 Covid-19 cases, 157 new deaths

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday 1,901 additional coronavirus cases and 157 new deaths due to Covid-19.

Based on the case bulletin of the DOH, the new infections increased the nationwide case count to 557,058.

Of this number, 32,440 are active cases.

Meanwhile, 512,789 of the tally are those who have survived the ailment, which includes 537 new recoveries.

The death toll now stands at 11,829.

According to DOH, total active cases represent 5.8 percent of the overall caseload, while 92.1 percent are recovered patients, and 2.12 percent are those who have succumbed to the disease.

Of the active cases, 86 percent are mild, 8.5 are asymptomatic, 2.4 are critical, 2.4 are severe, and 0.72 are moderate cases.

The DOH said six duplicate entries, including three recoveries and one death, were removed from the total case count.

A total of 120 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also reclassified as deaths after validation.

The DOH said the additional figures do not cover data from four laboratories that were not able to submit their results on time.

Despite a decreasing national growth rate of Covid-19, the health department earlier flagged the increasing coronavirus cases in Central Visayas, Caraga, and eight cities in Metro Manila, particularly in Valenzuela, Pasay, Malabon, Pasig, Makati, Navotas, Las Piñas, and Manila.

On Thursday, the DOH in Central Visayas confirmed the detection of two mutations of concern of SARS-CoV-2 from samples in Cebu. All of the patients with the virus mutations have already been cleared for quarantine.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-Region 7 spokesperson, said the two mutations of concern are also of global concern “because apparently, these are the mutations related to increased transmissibility.”

However, the DOH national office said the available data are still insufficient to conclude that the mutations of concern will have significant public health implications.
