MANILA, Philippines — “You are far from perfect as we all are sinners here, but let me honor you today not only with my love but to let you know that you are a good person.”

Katrina Ponce Enrile said that on Sunday, Valentine’s Day, in a Facebook post that paid tribute to his father, former Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, on his 97th birthday.

“Many may have forgotten you…. many have also made you into memes (okay we can all laugh with them if that’s what makes them happy for after all you have always said ‘gusto ko happy ka’), and to this day many still don’t get you,” Katrina said.

“[L]ike I said not perfect but a good and kindhearted man who has never forgotten his roots. You still live a simple life and would not have it any other way. You still read your books, make notes and share what you learn each day —— hahaha to me, your audience of one!” she added.

Katrina also said her father remained “humble” even despite holding various posts in the government. She called him a “humble lad from Cagayan.”
