Free parking, coding exemption sought for seniors

/ 05:12 AM February 13, 2021

A Quezon City lawmaker wants to give additional benefits and privileges to the Filipino elderly as “simple economic benefits” in recognition of their contribution to nation-building.

Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas filed House Bill No. 8599, that seeks to amend Republic Act No. 9994, or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

The measure, also known as the “Free Parking and Coding Exemption for Senior Citizens Act,” was filed on Feb. 1. The bill seeks to provide free parking in all establishments for vehicles registered under the senior citizen’s name.

It also exempts vehicles from the number coding scheme where a senior citizen is the driver or passenger. —Julie M. Aurelio
