MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao Command (AFP-Eastmincom) chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino has been appointed as the acting chief of the Philippine Army, AFP chief Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana confirmed Friday.

“LTGEN FAUSTINO will be the Acting CGPA [Commanding General of the Philippine Army] effective 16 February,” said Sobejana in a text message to INQUIRER.net.

Faustino replaced Sobejana, former Army chief and medal of valor recipient. Sobejana formally assumed his post last Jan. 27, following General Gilbert Gapay’s mandatory retirement.

Faustino, member of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988, was appointed as commander of Eastmincom last January 25, 2020. Eastminom covers all military units in Davao, Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.

Prior to this, he also served as the head of Army’s 10th Infantry Division.
