NBI asked to probe Sinulog fund burglary
THE lawyer of security guard Joselyndo Jabagat requested the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) to investigate the Sinulog Foundation Inc.’s P1.6-million fund burglary.
Lawyer Gloria Lastimosa-Dalawampu said she already forwarded to the NBI-7 the findings of the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office, which dismissed the complaint filed against Jabagat.
Police earlier filed a complaint for qualified theft against Jabagat, whom they suspected was the person responsible for the loss of the P1.6-million SFI funds last Jan. 16.
The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office, however, found no probable cause to indict Jabagat.
The complaint was eventually dismissed.
Dalawampu said she was disappointed with the investigation of the local police, whom she claimed to refuse to consider other possibilities with regard to the incident.
“Mora silag (police) kabayo (Policemen who investigate my client are like horses). Why do they keep their focus on Jabagat? Why not open their eyes and ears so other people can be subjected to the investigation?” the lawyer told reporters at the Palace of Justice yesterday.
Dalawampu said she and her client would file criminal charges against the policemen, who implicated Jabagat in the crime as well as some of the SFI officials.
She also said that she and her client would welcome police moves to file another case against her client.
The NBI-7 earlier conducted a polygraph examination on employees of the Cebu City Sports Complex and some of the Sinulog Foundation employees to help police in its investigation.
Results of the polygraph exam were turned over by the NBI-7 to the police who haven’t release the results yet. /Reporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol
