BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Monday said he has agreed to continue his task as contact tracing czar until the government finds his replacement.

He made the announcement after the weekly flag-raising ceremony.

Magalong resigned last week following a scandal over celebrity events organizer Tim Yap’s birthday party in January health protocols were violated.

Magalong, who attended the party, took responsibility for the breach and said his resignation was irrevocable.

But Magalong said he did not want to disrupt Covid-19 tracing amid the emergence of a more infectious variant.

The mayor said he was prevailed upon to stay “on a hold over capacity” by Secretary Carlito Galvez, vaccine czar and chief implementer of the National Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and Vivencio Dizon, chair of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, and the IATF’s testing czar.
