MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is in favor of deferring the implementation of the law requiring the installation of car seats for children at this time when people are facing a lot of hardships due to the pandemic, according to Sen. Christopher Go. “He himself does not want this implemented. He said not this time, it is not the time to implement this law. Filipinos are facing a lot of hardship, let us not make things harder for them,” Go said. Transportation officials earlier said the full enforcement of the child car seat law would be deferred. The law requires private motorists to use car seats for children younger than 12 years old to protect them in case of a crash. The law took effect on Feb. 2, 2021. —Leila B. Salaverria
