LUCENA CITY – Ten barangay workers, two other government employees and six others in Tagaytay City recently tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The city government reported on social media last Friday that two of the new patients are them children age 3 and 4 and three senior citizens aged 66, 63 and 60.
Last week, Mayor Agnes Tolentino issued Executive Order 355 demanding the closure of all tourism related business establishments in the city every Monday starting Feb. 1 for disinfection purposes to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Tolentino noted that the number of Covid-19 cases in the city recently increased, “though remaining at a highly manageable level”.
“There is a need to strictly implement health safety protocols especially for business establishments frequently visited by tourists including, but not limited to, restaurants, hotels, theme and amusement parks, souvenir shops, and ‘pasalubong’ (gift) centers,” she explained.
Spa and wellness centers, salons and barber shops, travel agencies and gyms/fitness centers are also covered by the order.
As of Feb. 5, the city has logged 253 Covid-19 cases, 225 recoveries and seven fatalities since the pandemic erupted in March last year.
