2 pedestrians die in Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY –– Two pedestrians died in separate road accidents in the towns of Mulanay and Padre Burgos in Quezon province on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 2 and 3.

The Quezon police reported that a dump truck driven by Iglecerio Dimaano first bumped a car and a motorcycle before hitting a still-unidentified male pedestrian in one section of the Bondoc Peninsula Highway in Barangay Burgos in Padre Burgos town at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

The pedestrian, wearing short pants colored black and blue and a blue checkered polo shirt, died on the spot from fatal body injuries.

Dimaano was detained at the local police jail pending the filing of criminal charges against him.

In Mulanay, Mila Pernia Mancia, 56, a resident of Barangay Ibabang Yuni, was walking on the right side of the road in the village at 8 p.m. on Feb. 2 when a white Canter close van (EBT 841) driven by John Harold Mantes, also a resident of the same village, accidentally bumped her.

The victim was rushed to the district hospital in neighboring Catanauan town but died along the way.

Police said they were told by the van owner, Rey Mark Banawa, that the suspect had fled and had since gone into hiding.
