MANILA, Philippines — Tricycle drivers from Quezon City who participated in the Community Mart project of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) were given certificates after completing their basic motorcycle maintenance training.
In a small program on Wednesday, Vice President Leni Robredo awarded the certificates to several members of the Kamuning Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA), after completing the training that was also done in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The tricycle drivers were part of the OVP’s Community Mart project, where residents in various cities would no longer need to go to markets to buy their goods and groceries, as they can purchase them through smartphone apps — to limit outside exposure and prevent contracting Covid-19.
The goods purchased by a household are then delivered by tricycle drivers: in this case, goods from the Kamuning Market are delivered by members of the Kamuning TODA.
The five-day training with Tesda aims to equip the tricycle drivers with the necessary skill to conduct preventive maintenance on their motorcycles, to avoid high costs of vehicle repairs, and to keep their tricycles in good shape.
“Vice President Leni Robredo led the awarding of certificates to Kamuning TODA drivers who took part in the Community Mart initiative of her office, after finishing the five-day basic motorcycle preventive maintenance training initiated in partnership with [TESDA],” OVP said in a statement.
“The Office of the Vice President has been providing capacity building training for Community Mart tricycle drivers and market vendors, as part of its continuous efforts to alleviate poverty under the Angat Buhay program,” it added.
The Community Mart project was initiated with various local government units at the height of quarantine periods in Metro Manila. In Quezon City, other barangays that adopted the program include Barangays Mariana, Obrero, Sacred Heart, Laging Handa, Pinagkaisahan, South Triangle, Paligsahan, and Roxas District.
