LOOK: Robredo, Vico Sotto, check Community Mart ops in Pasig
MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto inspected the Community Mart project in the Pasig Mega Market on Thursday, a day after it was launched, to ensure that safety measures are being implemented.
Both Robredo and Sotto met with members of the Community Mart, a mobile application-based store where shoppers can purchase groceries from markets online — to avoid direct contact and minimize risks of local coronavirus transmission.
The project, led by the Office of the Vice President (OVP), taps on small market owners and tricycle drivers — sectors affected economically by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the COVID-19 pandemic — to deliver the goods to the app user.
“Together with Mayor Vico Sotto, VP Leni was able to meet members of the Community Mart – Pasig Mega Market team from both the OVP and the local government of Pasig, as well as the tricycle drivers who are part of the program. She was also able to observe the operations of the public market as safety measures are currently observed,” OVP said.
The OVP said that the sales generated from the Pasig City edition of the Community Mart reached P71,000 just on its first day.
This program was first initiated in Quezon City markets, in cooperation with the local government. OVP says that sales in Quezon City for just the first week surpassed the P500,000 mark.
