MANILA, Philippines — The number of suspects killed in the government’s anti-drug war breached the 6,000th mark, recent records from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) showed.
In its report titled, #RealNumbersPH, PDEA said 31 more drug suspects died nationwide from 5,980 killings recorded in November 30, 2020 to 6,011 fatalities documented in December 31, 2020.
Five years since the bloody drug war began, 273,014 suspects were detained in 188,603 anti-narcotics operations of law enforcers in the country.
PDEA also documented 10,959 high value targets, 103 uniformed personnel, 368 elected officials, and 449 government employees were arrested in the government’s crackdown against illegal drugs.
On the drug-clearing of barangays nationwide, PDEA noted that 20,946 out of 42,045 villages in the country were drug-free. The government still needs to get rid of narcotics in 13,984 barangays.
United Nations (UN) special rapporteur Agnes Callamard on Friday said the government’s review panel should not review panel should not only look into perpetrators of drug war deaths but also those who enabled drug killings in the police operations.
The Justice department previously said it sent a partial report on the drug war review to the President’s office. This means they would conduct further review, which will include the side of Commission on Human Rights.
