MANILA, Philippines — The government is looking to receive more than 1 million vaccine doses against Covid-19 in the Philippines by February, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said Wednesday.

“We expect the first batch of vaccine deliveries to arrive by next month. We are negotiating na mayroong darating na [that there are supplies arriving] more or less, 200 to 500 AstraZeneca for our health workers, Pfizer sa Covax and also 500,000 for Sinovac,” Galvez said in his speech delivered at the Taguig City Covid-19 vaccination dry run.

“More or less magkakaroon ng early rollout this February. More or less more than 1 million doses,” Galvez, who is also the chief of the National Task Force against Covid-19, further said.

The national government has considered the controversial Sinovac vaccine for its vaccination program against Covid-19.

In a previous Senate inquiry on the vaccination program, Galvez revealed that there is a “term sheet” with the China pharmaceutical firm but clarified that the country’s agreement with Sinovac on vaccine supply is not yet a “done deal.”
