MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City is preparing its four mega-quarantine vaccination centers and 40 community centers ahead of the arrival this year of Covid-19 vaccine doses.

In a statement on Saturday, the local government said that one of the four mega-quarantine vaccination centers includes the Lakeshore complex in Barangay Lower Bicutan. Meanwhile, 40 schools will serve as community vaccination centers.

Taguig City has one of the lowest number of active Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila, with five cases per 100,000.

The city government said that as of Jan. 21, it has logged a total of 11,095 Covid-19 cases.  A total of 10,869 patients have so far recovered.

Previously, the local government secured a partnership with ORCA Cold Chain Solutions to repurpose a part of its 6,500-square-meter facility located in Barangay Bagumbayan, for the storage of the vaccines.

“Sisiguraduhin nila ang integridad ng vaccine at mula doon hanggang sa mga vaccination centers, sila ang mag-susupervise para sa wastong temperatura ng vaccine,” Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano said

(They will make sure that the vaccines will be properly stored up to the vaccination centers, and they will be supervising, to ensure the proper temperature of the vaccines.)

The city government earlier announced that it had earmarked P1 billion to purchase COVID-19 vaccines, and has pre-ordered vaccine doses from AstraZeneca.

Aside from AstraZeneca, Cayetano added that the city government is also in talks with other vaccine suppliers.
