2 dead in Quezon shooting incidents

LUCENA CITY  –– Two persons were killed in separate shooting incidents in Sariaya and Candelaria towns in Quezon province on Thursday.

The Quezon police reported on Friday that motorcycle-riding gunmen shot dead a teacher, Domingo Jaron, 56, while eating inside a roadside restaurant in Barangay Montecillo, Sariaya, at 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 21.

The police said the motorcycle’s pillion rider, armed with a caliber .45 pistol, entered the eatery and immediately fired at the victim.

Jaron was able to run, but was shot again by the suspect, who escaped aboard the motorcycle driven by another man.

The teacher suffered a fatal wound on his head and died on the spot, the police said.

In Candelaria town, the police reported that Randy Hermida, 39, was walking home along the railway tracks in Barangay San Andres around 8 p.m. on Thursday when he was repeatedly shot by a still-unidentified suspect using a caliber .45 pistol.

The police said the victim, who died on the spot, was a member of a local drug group.

He also had a criminal case for illegal possession of a firearm, police added.
