CITY OF CALAPAN—A drug suspect was killed in a buy-bust operation on Tuesday (Jan. 19) in the town of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro province.
Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, Mimaropa police information officer, said policemen and operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) conducted a buy-bust targeting suspect Alfredo Mangsat past 5 a.m. at the village of Bagong Sikat.
Tolentino said after the buy-bust, Mangsat opened fire at one of the policemen, prompting other members of the anti-drug team to return fire.
In a report, Tolentino said shot by Mangsat was SSgt. Vincent Dacayanan and the other policeman who returned fire as SSgt. Aflred Valdez.
The return fire “resulted in the instantaneous death of suspect,” the report said.
An investigation is ongoing.
