Arroyo asks court to allow her to attend brother-in-law’s wake

Former President and Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo

MANILA, Philippines — Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has asked the Pasay regional trial court to allow her to attend the wake of her brother-in-law, Negros Occidental Representative Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.

Staff at the Pasay RTC Branch 112 confirmed that Arroyo’s lawyers filed on Wednesday afternoon an urgent motion for her to be allowed to attend the congressman’s wake.

Judge Jesus Mupas is set to hear the petition 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Arroyo is currently under detention at the Veterans’ Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, where she is receiving treatment for her hypoparathyroidism.

She was arrested in December last year on a charge of electoral sabotage.

Congressman Arroyo died last week in London due to liver cancer. His remains have yet to be repatriated to the Philippines.
