LEGAZPI CITY – The Bicol region has recorded an additional 60 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Saturday.
The Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol on Sunday said that the new cases were recorded in Masbate (35 cases), Camarines Sur (13 cases), Albay (six cases, and Sorsogon (five cases). A resident of Cavite City who was visiting Bicol also tested positive of the virus.
Last January 9, the region logged 50 new COVID-19 cases.
The recorded-high number of new cases on Saturday brought the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the region to 614.
The DOH said the surge in the COVID-19 cases could be attributed to the influx of residents from Metro Manila and other regions and late reporting of health officers in the region’s six provinces.
The DOH data indicate that from the period January 1 to 16, the new COVID-19 cases recorded ranges from one case to 60 cases, the highest recorded for the past 16 days.
DOH COVID tracker said Bicol’s cumulative cases as of Saturday has reached 4,044 cases with 3,264 (80 percent) recoveries, 614 active cases, and 166 or 4.1 percent deaths.
