COVID-19 hits Cagayan vice governor

TUGUEGARAO CITY- Cagayan Vice Gov. Melvin Vargas Jr. has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).  His office was temporarily shut down for disinfection.

Vargas, who was asymptomatic made the announcement on social media last Saturday, Jan. 16, to encourage people who came in contact with him to take swab tests and undergo isolation.

Two drivers and a lawyer-consultant of the vice governor’s office have also contracted COVID-19.

Vargas had been helping his aides last week in distributing relief goods to villagers in the towns of Gattaran, Enrile and Amulung.

He also met village officials in Piat town and some local artists in his office.

The provincial board’s office and session hall were also closed for disinfection.
