Heavy rain expected in Catanduanes, Bicol region

MANILA, Philippines — The persisting tail end of the frontal system is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rain in Catanduanes, and dampen the rest of Bicol Region on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The weather system, which is a result of the clash of cold and warm air masses, has been affecting the region since December 2020. The weather service, in its 11 a.m. advisory on Saturday, said the region was forecast to be rainy in the next 24 hours.

Pagasa said residents should be alert due to the possible effects of prolonged periods of rainfall such as landslides and floods.

The rest of Eastern Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region and Calabarzon are expected to have cloudy skies and light rain on Sunday. Central Luzon and Ilocos Region are forecast to experience generally fair weather, with chances of light rain.

No gale warning was issued in Luzon but Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said fishermen and seafarers should expect moderate waves.

The skies in Visayas and Mindanao will be generally cloudy, with scattered rain and thunderstorms.

“Those living in flood-prone areas should be alert, especially those on the eastern section of Visayas,” Ordinario said.
