Magnitude 5.3 quake hits northwest off Ilocos Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit the northwestern waters off Burgos town in Ilocos Norte on Tuesday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic earthquake’s epicenter was located 86 km northwest of Burgos at a depth of 33 km below the ground.

It was recorded at 9:38 p.m.

While no intensities have been reported as of now, Phivolcs said that aftershocks could be expected.

No tsunami warnings and no damage were recorded.
