MANILA, Philippines — Temperatures in Metro Manila are expected to plummet in the coming days, as the state weather bureau said that the National Capital Region can expect lows of between 18 to 24 degrees Celsius between January and February.
Data shared by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday showed that the low temperature window in Metro Manila would be smaller by February, which would be between 18 to 23 degrees.
The coldest parts of the country during these times would be the mountain ranges of Luzon, which includes Benguet, summer capital Baguio City, other areas in the Cordillera Administrative Region, as these would have low temperature ranges of 9 to 12 degrees Celsius by January, and 10 to 12 degrees by February.
Northern Luzon can expect something between 14 to 21 degrees Celsius in January and 14 to 22 degrees by February; lowlands of Luzon with 16 to 27 degrees in January and 17 to 25 degrees by February.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja said that the cold weather being felt as of late would continue, still due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.
“Napansin niyo po ba ang malamig na temperatura nitong mga nagdaang araw? Well asahan pa rin po natin ‘yan hanggang sa katapusan ng Pebrero,” Estareja said.
(Have you observed the cold weather the past few days? Well we can expect the same circumstances until the end of February.)
Numbers were taken from the Pagasa Climate Forum done last December, which was a creation of the Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section.
Mountainous parts of Mindanao would also be slightly colder with 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in January and 14 to 17 degrees by February — compared to Visayas’ 20 to 25 degrees and Mindanao lowlands’ 19 to 23 degrees.
