Olongapo City allots P20M as initial budget for COVID-19 vaccine purchase

OLONGAPO CITY –– The city government has allocated an initial P20 million budget for the purchase of vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. announced this on Monday, adding that they would sacrifice the city’s budget for some infrastructure projects to get more funding for the city’s vaccination program if needed.

“Our priority, for now, is to vaccinate the whole city’s population,” he said. Based on the 2015 census, the city has 233,040 residents.

In Zambales province, Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said they had yet to decide which brand of the vaccines to procure.

“Our primary consideration in choosing a brand [of vaccine] is the efficacy and safety,” Bueno told the Inquirer.
