Candon City earmarks P22M for vaccine purchase

DAGUPAN CITY –– Candon City has allotted P22 million for the purchase of vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-9) for its residents.

In a statement, City Mayor Ericson Singson on Sunday said the plan to buy the vaccine was part of the local government’s continuous COVID-19 prevention efforts, which also support the national government’s drive to obtain vaccines.

The city government listed seven preferred COVID-19 vaccines, namely Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Gameleya, Novavax, Covax, and Johnson and Johnson.

But Singson said the local government may still purchase other brands as long as these have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

He said they would also work to obtain herd immunity, targeting to vaccinate 80 percent of its 64,203 estimated population.

The city has only 16 confirmed cases during the entire pandemic period and has no active cases at present.

The last recorded infection in Candon City was on Dec. 4 last year.
