MANILA, Philippines — Mandaluyong City has allotted P200 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines for its residents.
The Mandaluyong Public Information Office said Mayor Menchie Abalos formed a committee that will oversee the purchase of the vaccines.
She also directed the committee to ensure that vaccine distribution will be effective.
“Pipilitin namin, sa abot ng aming makakaya at sa pakikipagtulungan ng bawat isa, na mabakunahan ang bawat Mandaleño,” Mayor Abalos said in a statement.
(We will try, to the best of our abilities, to vaccinate each Mandaleño.)

Mandaluyong City’s announcement came after several local government units such as Makati City and Manila City announced efforts to set aside funds and register residents who would receive a COVID-19 vaccine once it arrives in the country.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has also stated that around P300 million from the city’s 2021 budget has been allotted for the procurement and purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, the city council of Quezon City has given the local government the green light to purchase vaccines against COVID-19 for its constituents.
The city has allocated an initial P1 billion in its 2021 budget to purchase vaccines and supplies needed for the inoculation.
