Sinas leaves Nuezca’s fate to Metro Manila police chief
MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police, is leaving the fate of detained Police Staff Sergeant Jonel Nuezca’s career to the Metro Manila police chief. Nuezca stands accused in court of murdering on Dec. 20 two of his neighbors, Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank Anthony, in Paniqui, Tarlac, during a quarrel over ‘boga,’ an improvised cannon.
A witness was able to upload a video of the killings on social media. Sinas said the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) was conducting the summary dismissal proceedings against Nuezca.
“The PNP-IAS promised to finish the case [by] the end of this week so we have a resolution by Monday next week,” he said.
“Because this is under the jurisdiction of the NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office), the NCRPO regional director [Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr.] would give the final decision if he will abide by the recommendation of IAS,” Sinas said.
