TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 10,723 people in Eastern Visayas have recovered from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since March 2020.
The Department of Health (DOH) said this represents 93.63 percent of 11,453 total number of persons who contracted COVID-19 in the region as of Monday.
Eastern Visayas currently has 597 active cases with 131 deaths.
Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH officer-in-charge, renewed her appeal to all local governments to strictly follow the health standards and immediately subject close contacts of COVID-19 patients to quarantine or isolation, to control the further spread of the virus.
“Once again, a reminder to all, our fight is not over, and we need to be strong and disciplined,” she said.
The DOH said that among the six provinces of the region, Leyte has the highest number of recoveries, with 4,902 out of its total cases of 5,221. It has 266 active cases and 53 deaths.
Samar province reported 3,065 recoveries out of its 3,220 cases. The province has 114 active cases with 41 deaths.
Northern Samar, meanwhile, has 1,216 recoveries out of its 1,315 total cases. Currently, it has 80 active cases and 19 deaths.
In Eastern Samar, out of its 823 total cases, 741 have recovered. This means it has only 66 active cases. The province has also reported 16 deaths.
Southern Leyte’s recoveries increased to 553 out of 600 total cases since March. The province has remaining 48 active cases. Seven have died due to COVID-19 complications.
The region’s smallest province, Biliran, has reported 246 recoveries out of its total cases of 274. At present, it has 26 active cases and two deaths.
