3.3-magnitude quake jolts Cagayan town on New Year’s Day

TUGUEGARAO CITY –– A 3.3-magnitude earthquake hit the island-town of Calayan in Cagayan on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake struck 29 kilometers northeast of Calayan at 7:55 a.m.

It has a depth of 17 km and was tectonic in origin.

No one was hurt, and no damage was reported.

A 2.7-magnitude tremor was also felt in Aparri in Cagayan at 8:01 a.m.

The quake was 60-km deep and struck 27-km northeast of the town.
