MANILA, Philippines — Two babies ushered in the New Year at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila, according to its medical center chief on Friday.

“Meron pong ipinanganak. Anim po silang nagle-labor bago po mag-alas dose,” Dr. Esmeraldo Ilem, the hospital’s medical center chief, said in an interview on ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo.

(Six mothers who went into labor before midnight.)

“Meron pong isa ipinanganak 12 o’clock pero usually  ang census namin ay 12 to 12, kaya ang sumunod na 12:01 [a.m.] ay kinonsider namin na New Year baby,”  he said.

(One baby was born exactly at 12. But our census is usually 12 to 12, so the next baby born at 12:01 a.m. is what we consider our New Year baby.)

That baby that was born at exactly 12 midnight was named Jahir, born to Michel Ocon. Baby Jahir weighed 3.135 kilograms. One of the mothers, Ilem added, gave birth to her baby boy via normal delivery.

Jahir, the New Year baby of 2021, touches the face shield of his mother Michel Ocon who is resting moments after her delivery at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila amid coronavirus pandemic. He was born exactly 12 midnight of January 1, 2021 with a weight of 3.135 kilogram.
