Cebu City cop tests positive for shabu use
MANILA, Philippines — A police corporal from Cebu City tested positive for drug use in the latest random drug tests conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
According to reports from the PNP, Police Corporal Manuel Alconten Paez was discovered to have been using shabu (crystal meth) after laboratory examination of his urine sample found the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or the main ingredient for crystal meth.
Paez was previously assigned to the Regional Police Recruitment Unit – 7. He will be facing administrative charges, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said.
“Another uniformed PNP member based in Central Visayas tested positive for illegal drug use following a random drug test,” PNP said in a statement.
“PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas said Police Corporal Manuel Alconten Paez will undergo investigation and administrative proceedings by the PNP Internal Affairs Service,” it added.
The drug test was conducted last December 17 by the Regional Crime Laboratory of Police Regional Office – 7 in Cebu City.
“Police Colonel Nora Camarao, Chief, PRS, ordered all her regional unit personnel to undergo random drug testing last December 17, upon the instruction of the Chief PNP,” the PNP said.
“This campaign aims to cleanse the ranks of the PNP with involvement in the use of illegal drugs leading to the filing of administrative and criminal charges,” the PNP added.
Just this December 14, another police officer from the Manila Police District tested positive for shabu use after Manila police officers were subjected to a random drug test last December 10.
