The lives of a father and son were ended by each other’s hand over a dispute that allegedly started when the son killed his father’s dog in Alabama, USA.

Nicholas Coker allegedly fired shots at four of their family dogs after one of them messed with his girlfriend’s child, as per Fox affiliate WALA-TV on Dec. 21.

Two of the dogs were killed, one owned by Nicholas and the other by his father, 60-year-old Kelvin James Coker.

Police said after the shooter’s brother warned him of their father being upset over the killing of the dog, Nicholas threatened to shoot his brother too.

“His brother said dad is going to be upset that you killed his dog and Nicholas allegedly pointed the shotgun at his brother and using choice language more or less told him to get off his property or he would kill him,” Washington County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator Blake Richardson was quoted as saying.

After the incident, the father went to Nicholas’ house to confront him, the report said. Nicholas then aimed his shotgun at his father, who was inside a pickup truck at the time, during the altercation.

In response, Kelvin James shot his son in the torso. Nicholas was able to fire back and struck his father’s neck, killing him on the spot. Nicholas died soon after.

“It’s unfortunate that they would not value human life not any more than that,” Richardson was quoted as saying.

The Washington County Sherriff’s Office has responded to several violent incidents involving the Coker family over the years, according to the report. Back in 2012, Kelvin James was charged with first-degree assault for shooting his other son three times in the arm. Ian Biong /ra
