Woman, 60, dies in Quezon motorcycle accident

LUCENA CITY –– A 60-year-old woman riding pillion on a motorcycle died in a vehicular accident in Sariaya town in Quezon province on Tuesday.

The Quezon police reported that Leonila Marquez was riding in a motorcycle driven by her son, Michael Marquez, 37, when their vehicle was hit from behind by a van along the national road in Barangay Montecillo around 5:30 p.m.

Both riders suffered injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Lucena City but the elder Marquez died along the way, the report said.

“Leonila was dragged and consequently ran over by the van,” Lieutenant Colonel Reynaldo Reyes, Sariaya police chief, said in a phone interview.

The van driver, Angelito Albos, a resident of Sariaya, is now detained at the local police jail. ‘
