LEGAZPI CITY –– Two persons were wounded after a cargo truck loaded with relief goods fell into a canal while negotiating a downhill road in a remote village in Bacacay town in Albay province Monday, a police report said.

Major Jan King Calipay, Bacacay police chief, said in a phone interview that the truck was driven by Alvin Zuñiga, 30, a resident of Legazpi City.

Zuñiga told investigators that he lost control of the truck in Barangay Cagbulacao around 7 a.m.

The truck, owned by LCC commercial establishment, was about to deliver 800 kilos or 16 sacks of rice and bottles of mineral water from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, and Filminera Mining and Resources Corp. to residents of Barangay San Pablo, a remote village in Bacacay.

The village had yet to receive help after typhoons battered Bicol in October and November.

The accident caused a delay in the relief distribution to some 360 families in said village.

The truck was pulled by a tow truck from the Albay Public Safety, Emergency, and Management Office, Calipay said.
