MANILA, Philippines — Seven people died while one person was injured after Tropical Depression Vicky caused flooding mostly in Mindanao areas, data from Philippine National Police (PNP) showed Sunday.
In a situation report, PNP Public Information Office said two deaths were from Eastern Visayas, while five fatalities were reported from the Caraga region.
In a separate message, PNP spokesman Police Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana said six out of seven fatalities were drowning incidents. The remaining victim died of a car accident due to a landslide, Usana said.
Meanwhile, four people were reported missing in Mindanao areas. Two missing persons were in Davao Region while two others were in Caraga.
Police said there were 853 people staying at evacuation centers in Mindanao. Of the number, 177 are staying at relief centers in Davao while 676 are living at temporary shelters in Caraga.
Over the weekend, Vicky, which was dubbed as worst weather disturbance since 2014, caused flooding and landslides affecting thousands of residents in Mindanao.
Vicky is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility this Sunday afternoon. [ac]
