Strong waves damage over 70 houses in Cebu

CEBU CITY – At least 76 houses were washed away by strong waves in Lapu-Lapu City on Friday night even though Tropical Depression Vicky did not make landfall in the Visayas.

According to Lapu-Lapu City’s disaster management office, some 291 individuals fromcoastal Barangay Ibo on Mactan Island were affected and were brought to the nearby Ibo Elementary School.

No casualties were reported.

Tropical Depression Vicky brought moderate rains to Cebu on Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAG-ASA) station on Mactan Island said it is expecting Cebu’s weather to improve late afternoon or early evening on Saturday.

In Cebu province, the disaster management office is still collating data from the different towns and cities.

A local radio report stated that a few houses near the beach in Argao town were also damaged by strong waves on Friday night.

There were also reports of power outages in the southern towns of Cebu province.
