Two dogs that fell into a septic tank after escaping from their home were saved by an animal rescue officer in Florida in the United States.

Yureisy Hernandez managed to free Brenda and Bianca after responding to a call last month from the resident who owned the tank. The two dogs were almost completely submerged, as per CBS-affiliate WFOR on Dec. 11.

When Hernandez arrived, she admitted that it took her a while to figure out how to save the dogs as she was “not used to dealing with septic tanks.” She eventually spotted a ladder nearby and used it as a lever to lift Bianca and Brenda out of the tank.

“Luckily I was able to find the ladder that was there and use that to lever them out because if not I would have jumped in there to try to get them out,” Hernandez told the news outlet.

Following the rescue, Hernandez’s workplace, the Miami-Dade Animal Services, could not contact their owner as the pets had no microchips or collars. They then posted a photo of Brenda and Bianca on their official website in hopes of finding their owner.

While the two were stuck in the tank, their owner Vanessa Cruz had been actively looking for them but had no luck. However, her situation turned around when her brother in California spotted them on the center’s site and quickly informed her.

“Once I saw them and they saw me, they were like, ‘Mom!’ They were so happy to see me,” Cruz was quoted as saying.

She also praised Hernandez for her actions, noting that the officer had gone “above and beyond” her job. Ryan Arcadio /ra
