CEBU CITY—Motorcycle taxi service Angkas is a step closer to resuming operations in Metro Cebu.
The Metro Cebu Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MC-Taxi TWG) on Tuesday inspected Angkas units during simulation trips that were conducted to see how the company would observe health protocol and standard operating procedures in a new normal.
The MC-Taxi TWG is composed of representatives from the Land Transportation Office and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas.
The Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group, traffic bodies in Metro Cebu cities and a nongovernment organization, Cebu Road Heroes, also took part in the inspection.
Angkas motorcycle taxis were allowed to simulate trips in a gymnasium where their health kits, gadgets and plastic separators were inspected.
At least 13 Angkas drivers took part in the simulation.
Commuters, however, may have to wait before Angkas starts to actually return to service in Metro Cebu.
After the inspection, a report would be submitted to the MC-Taxi TWG at the Department of Transportation head office in Metro Manila.
If Angkas passed the tests, the TWG in Manila would issue a provisional authority for the motorcycle taxi company to operate in Metro Cebu.
