MANILA, Philippines —Cavite Rep. Strike Revilla became the 30th deputy speaker of the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.
During Monday afternoon’s session, the House elected Revilla as the chamber’s newest deputy speaker.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Francisco Benitez was named as the new chair of the House housing and urban development committee.
COOP-NATCCO party-list Rep. Sabiniano Canama was also named as the new head of the House Special Committee on East Asean Growth Area while PHILRECA party-list Rep. Presley de Jesus got the position as chair of the chamber’s cooperatives development panel.
Following Velasco’s election as Speaker of the House, allies of his rival former Speaker Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano were booted out of their deputy speakers posts and stripped of their committee chairmanships.
Last Dec. 7, nine lawmakers allied with Velasco were the latest to take on positions as deputy speakers.
