Rains to persist over northern, eastern parts of Luzon — Pagasa

Easterlies to warm up PH as Amihan slightly weakens

MANILA, Philippines — Rains experienced over the northern and eastern portion of Luzon are expected to continue on Tuesday as state meteorologists note that the northeast monsoon and the tail end of a frontal system continue to persist.

Weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday afternoon showed that the northeast monsoon or amihan still carries winds over the extreme northern Luzon area, causing cold weather and occasional rains.

Cloudy skies are also seen to prevail over Cagayan Valley and eastern parts of central and southern Luzon as the tail end of a frontal system is sill active.

Due to these weather systems, temperatures would remain low over Tuguegarao at 23 to 28 degrees Celsius, and Baguio at 15 to 24 degrees.  The northern Luzon area can expect mornings to become colder as the amihan is seen to intensify, which also means that the formation of tropical cyclones are unlikely.

Remaining areas in Luzon will feel warm and humid weather although isolated thunderstorms may still prevail especially by afternoon and night.  Metro Manila can expect something around 25 to 31 degrees, 24 to 32 degrees for Laoag, and 25 to 32 degrees for both Legazpi and Puerto Princesa.

Visayas and Mindanao would also be warm and humid except for Tacloban which will have temperatures of around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.  For Cebu and Zamboanga, it would play within 25 to 32 degrees, and 24 to 32 degrees in Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

A gale warning remains raised over the extreme northern Luzon coastlines, specifically the entire seaboard of Ilocos Region, the northern coast of Cagayan, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

Sea condition may be rough to very rough in these areas, and fisherfolk and boat transfer operators using small boats are advised against sailing.
