MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested the alleged gunman in the killing of Pangasinan journalist Virgilio “Vir” Maganes.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas said in a press briefing Monday that a search warrant was implemented against Noe Ducay who was identified by witnesses as the gunman in the killing of Maganes last November 10.
Authorities seized a caliber .357 revolver, four pieces of ammunition for caliber .38, and magazine assembly for caliber .45 from the suspect.
Sinas said a complaint for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act was filed against Ducay.
He said the police will also file a complaint for murder against Ducay and several John Does at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Pangasinan on December 15.
Maganes, a block-time radio commentator and local newspaper columnist, was shot by two motorcycle-riding men in Barangay San Blas in Villasis, Pangasinan. Six pieces of fired cartridges for a caliber .45 were recovered from the crime scene.
Sinas said personal grudge is being eyed as the motive behind the crime.
