MANILA, Philippines — The island of Batanes has recorded its third coronavirus case, another locally stranded individual (LSI), local officials said Thursday,
An 82-year-old resident who returned to the province tested positive for COVID-19, the local government posted on its official Facebook page.
The patient, who came from Cavite, showed symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving on December 9. Local officials said he was immediately isolated in Batanes Resort.
His companions meanwhile tested negative for the disease. An “extensive” contact tracing is currently being conducted by the local government.
The local government assured the public that all LSIs or returning residents will immediately undergo COVID-19 screening in the Basco airport. It added that all individuals who will exhibit any symptoms will be brought to an isolation facility.
The province’s first-ever COVID case was recorded on September 29. Meanwhile, the second case was detected in October. Both patients were also LSIs who went home to the province.
