Senate adopts resolution commending South Korean ambassador to PH
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate adopted on Wednesday a resolution commending South Korean ambassador Han Dong-man “for his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation” between the Philippines and South Korea.
“Having more than 30 years of experience in representing the Republic of Korea in international relations, Ambassador Han Dong-man further strengthened the ties between the two countries, recognizing the decades-long partnership of the Philippines and South Korea,” read the Senate Resolution No. 586.
The resolution was introduced by Senator Richard Gordon.
In pushing for the document’s adoption, Gordon noted that Han initiated a number of investments for certain projects such as the Malolos-Clark Railway project, the Metro Rail Transit Line 7, and the Jalaur Dam in Calinog, Iloilo.
Aside from these initiatives, Han also facilitated the signing between the two countries of a $1 billion soft loan agreement to finance multiple infrastructure projects until 2022.
Gordon also said that under the leadership of Han, the Korean Embassy was a consistent donor of funds, equipment, supplies, and goods to Filipinos in general and through the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) during calamities, such as typhoons Rolly, Ulysses, and Ompong; Taal and Mayon volcano eruption, and; Mindanao earthquakes.
Article continues after this advertisement“Even in the face of COVID-19, Ambassador Han Dong-man continued his duties to deepen the bond between the two countries, helping the Philippines secure $100 million in funding for its COVID-19 response, sharing vital information about Korea’s countermeasures to the coronavirus, and donating face masks for frontiers,” the resolution read.
Article continues after this advertisementUltimately, the resolution sought to commend the ambassador for his “outstanding work as envoy of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines, thus ensuring a bright future in the creations of, and constant close cooperation between the two counties.”
