MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is urging local government units (LGUs) to pass ordinances banning karaoke this Christmas and New Year holidays to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The DILG is harping on the possible spread of the virus through videoke or karaoke sessions.
“Isa sa napatunayan nang nagkakalat ng COVID-19 ay ito pong pagvi-videoke,or karaoke. So everybody is discouraged to (conduct) videoke and karaoke activities,” Interior Undersecretary Epimaco Densing said in an online press briefing hosted by the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday.
“We are asking our local government units, they can also issue executive orders, local ordinances or resolutions prohibiting videoke or karaoke this season,” he added.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier said the government will come up with a contingency plan for a possible “post-holiday season surge” in coronavirus infections nationwide.
The DOH has repeatedly advised the public against holding Christmas parties and other related gatherings this holiday season to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 which has already afflicted over 442,000 nationwide.
