Dito Telecommunity will not allow itself to be used to compromise the Philippines’ national security, its spokesperson Adel Tamano said on Tuesday amid fears that the government does not have enough safeguards against cybersecurity. Dito is partly owned by a Chinese state-run company. “It is run by Filipinos and the officers are Filipino, the employees are Filipino … Therefore we will never allow any espionage or anything that will be negative to our national security to happen [in] our operations,” Tamano said. He also said Dito had a cybersecurity plan and had spent P1 billion for its security operations center. —Leila B. Salaverria
