MANILA, Philippines — On the occasion of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday encouraged Filipinos to be kind to one another as the country continues to face challenges.
The Immaculate Conception marks the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary free from original sin by virtue of the merits of her son, Jesus Christ.
“Let us all draw strength from the holy life and example of the Virgin Mary so we may remain steadfast, joyous and hopeful amidst the many challenges we face today as a nation,” Duterte said in a statement.
“May her Immaculate Conception guide us all, whatever faith we may hold, to be kind to one another during these trying times as we look forward to a better future in this life and beyond. I wish everyone a solemn and meaningful observance,” he added.
It was in 2017 when Duterte declared December 8 of every year as a special non-working holiday in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception by signing into law Republic Act No. 10966.
