Taguig City records new lowest COVID-19 case count per 100K population
MANILA, Philippines — Taguig City once again recorded one of the lowest active COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and even among major cities in the world as of December 5.
Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano, citing data from the city epidemiology disease surveillance unit as of Dec. 5, said Taguig’s five active cases per 100,000 population were far less than the 20 cases per 100,000 population recorded in the entire Metro Manila.
Taguig’s 45 active cases were also one of the lowest in Metro Manila, after Malabon and Pateros, which registered 34 active cases each.
Cayetano said the city’s total COVID-19 cases, which stands at 9,749, is only 6.6% of the 147,418 COVID-19 cases reported in Metro Manila.
This is also far less than the total COVID-19 cases reported in Seoul, South Korea, with 10,205; Tokyo, Japan with 43,426; and Toronto, Canada, with 44,279; for that same period.
Cayetano also said that the city’s recovery rate from COVID-19 increased to 98.44%, far higher than the recovery rate for Metro Manila, which is at 95.19%

He urged Taguig citizens to continue following those protocols that include social distancing, the wearing of face masks and face shields, and the frequent washing of hands.
“We can fight COVID-19 with the proper protocols, proper enforcement, and public cooperation. Let us continue to help each other to ensure our city remains safe,” Cayetano said in a statement.
In November, active COVID-19 cases in Taguig reached a low 0.1% of all its total COVID-19 cases, making it the city with the lowest active COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.
