ECHAGUE, Isabela—A 47-year-old police officer here was arrested on Thursday (Dec. 3) after he allegedly tried to extort P1.2-million from a woman facing a string of estafa charges.

The officer was identified as MSgt. Arthur Coloma Salvador of the Echague police force and resident of Alicia town in Isabela province.

Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, Cagayan Valley police director, said Salvador was arrested during an entrapment operation following a complaint by victim Nimfa Remigio, a businesswoman.

Remigio said Salvador demanded the money in exchange for his help to settle charges with the complainants who sued her for estafa.

Salvador, who was arrested at a parking lot in Santiago City, denied the allegations and said he was framed up.
