Manila tries to control Divisoria shopping crowd
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said obstructions in Divisoria, including night market stalls, were removed to protect Christmas shoppers from acquiring the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
All stalls were removed except for the vegetable stands from Northern Luzon, which are open in Ylaya, Recto to Asuncion, Recto until 5 a.m., he said.
Domagoso asked the people to buy instead at the gated Mehan Garden.
The mayor noted that the local government has already cleaned up Recto, from Asuncion to Abad Santos, Juan Luna and Soler, and that there is already no obstruction.
However, there are still vendors along Ylaya, perpendicular to Recto, Carmen Planas, Tabora and Elcano.
